It´s made with Apophysis & tons of postwork with Photoshop. Really hard to explain since it was extremely experimental. Read my replies on comments under this image, that might shed a little more light on the matter. Even though I still suck at explaining the process. :)

Yeah, but I keep it for business only, plus friends in real life, I´m not adding any more people, it´s extremely irritating to log in as it is, too many windows popping up each time. Feel free to note though, allmost as good as msn since I´m logged into DA pretty much 24/7.

Hard to explain, it had so many steps. But the base I started with was a fractal-render done with Apophysis, it had a similar shape than a galaxy has. Then I took it to photoshop, added a lot more shape into the whole thing, still with different apophysis-created elements, and after the build was finished, the end-result looked a bit like a tunnel or something, same shape seen in different galaxies. After that I build the stars & such around the whole thing, distorted the tunnel-shaped thing a bit to look more like a galaxy, and tried to make the whole thing look like it all blends together.

Not that helpful answer I´m sure, but the way I work with spacestuff is always pretty random, it´s pretty painfull to try & explain it so that it would make any sense to anyone else except me. :p

Thanks. Haven´t seen Spore, only that one shot that circulated the web, where someone modelled the Starcraft race in it. Was pretty crazy.

is it just me, or is this kind of grainy?
hmm, it's probably just the dim stars, but it still bugs me :hmm:

but other than that, great job

Yeah, there´s a ton of dimmer stars, they show up much more natural in the higher-resolution version, when downsized they did have a nasty habit of looking more like unintentional grain.

Nice to hear you liked in any case. :peace:

Still a ton to do with the DW-piece, the reaper is ready & death of rats, still need to build up Binky, plus the actual scene where they´ll be placed. But it´ll see the light of day eventually, no idea when though. :)
